E3 Expo - Day One Report
by Jason "Rodzilla" Rodzik
Posted on May 19, 2005

So what should be expected to start the biggest E3 Expo in history? Fireworks? Techno music galore? Swag-o-rama? Try again. I was greeted by the dimmer-than-normal insides of the Los Angeles Convention Center, followed by the completely blacked-out Media Center. Apparently Los Angeles' power grid couldn't handle E3 this year, resulting in some aggravating problems. Due to the partial loss of power for the convention center, all available power was routed to the show floor so that the show could go on. This resulted in the Media Center and other sections of the Convention Center being without power for most of the day, which is why we've been a bit lax on updates today.

Before the show floor opened, and before we were worried about the power situation, ESA President Douglas Lowenstein briefed all media in attendance. A summary of his briefing can be found on the next page.

Following the media briefing was a media breakfast. However, due to the power situation, this simply resulted in a lot of waiting for nothing, but we all got a good deal out of it in the form of a food coupon good anywhere on site. After tunneling through the chaos of where to pick up a media badge holder due to the media center being closed, it was off to the show floor to play Serious Sam II.

We have an exclusive thirty minutes of Serious Sam II in-game video which includes continuous interviewing of Serious Sam II Producer Fernando Melo. We expect to post a summary of the video as well as shorter versions for the bandwidth impaired sometime in the future, most likely after the chaos of E3 has died down.

Following Serious Sam II it was time to take a look at everything E3 had to offer this year, and it's a whole lot. We have highlights of the following games:

2K Games JoWood AG Ubisoft NCSoft THQ Vivendi Blizzard Electronic Arts
