So who cares about all that industry/hollywood/music/problems mumbo-jumbo anyway, you're here for the games! Well have no fear, there's plenty of them. Simply put, the entire line-up this year promises a very bright future for gaming. From Peter Jackson's King Kong to the classic-style run-and-gun shooter Serious Sam II to the next-generatoin of game engines and consoles, E3 2005 has it all. Due to the power situations with the first day of coverage, we are behind schedule on posting videos of the expo, but we should have all our game videos up soon. For now, you can take a look at our general photo gallery and the following:
Serious Sam II
What kind of mean-spirited journalist would I be if you came to Seriously! looking for information on Serious Sam II and you didn't get any? Well, I could see myself doing that, but Serious Sam II was just so cool I couldn't not show it to people. I had a chance to play Serious Sam II once the floor opened, and was also able to have Serious Sam II Producer Fernando Melo go through parts of the game not in the floor demo for E3. There's vehicles, gigantic enemies, a newly modeled Serious Bomb (not yet operational), new weapons, and tons of details. However, there's still not much information on multiplayer, other than co-op will be there for sure. Check out the video!
Peter Jackson's King Kong
After standing in line for what felt like days after the day’s events, we were seated beind closed doors at the King Kong presentation. After several dozen strip searches by men that I’m fairly sure didn’t actually work there, we were completely prevented from sneaking any photos of videos of the game. I’m not entirely sure why, because what we witnessed was simply magical. The presentation started off with Peter Jackson and some crew members discussing the creation of the game. Jackson stated that his original viewing of King Kong inspired his current career, and he then went on into the game itself.
You play the role of a director of a film crew, but an interesting aspect of the game is that you can also play as King Kong himself. When I witnessed the character picking up sharp sticks and using them as spears as a dinosaur routinely attacked him, I could only think of how much it would suck to have to fight a medium-sized dinosaur with spears. Note the fact that the dinosaur was “medium-sized.” My initial thoughts changed once I witnessed him trying to escape from two T-Rex’s while fleeing down a river on a raft. King Kong came leaping in to the rescue, and unless you think the definition of “awesome” is “King Kong and a T-Rex beating the living crap out of each other,” think again.
Peter Jackson's King Kong looks like it will definitely be one of the top games of the year. Not only does it look like it will be an amazing gameplay experience, but it looks like it wil be a blast to play and provide well-balanced cinematic immersion with interactive gameplay.
