Rainbow Six: Las Vegas - E3 Prevew

While we were unable to get our hands on the next installment of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six series, the gameplay demonstration we saw left us anxious for our trip to Vegas in Rainbow Six: Las Vegas.

The mission we saw involved a hostage situation within a Vegas casino, and of course there was not much time before the hostages were going to be executed. Your squad begins by rappelling down the side of the casino from the roof, and I was amazed when the player was actually able to rotate around halfway down the building so that he was rappelling head-first, allowing him to peek into a window without being seen. After spotting a clear area, the player swung in straight through the window, with beautifully rendered glass shards flying everywhere.

I’m sure everyone who has seen a decent number of action movies is very familiar with the handy snake-cameras which allow the inside of a room to be viewed covertly and safely. Rainbow Six: Las Vegas gives the player the advantage of being able to use these cameras to scope out a room before entering it, allowing for highly-effective planning and tactics.

Upon peering into a room, the player was able to see several hostages as well as about five terrorists, in addition to a second entry into the room. Using a simple interface, each terrorist was assigned to be the primary target for each member of the team, and the player then went around to the other entrance. After giving the go signal, the entire team stormed in through both doors simultaneously, and each member took out their primary target first, neutralizing all five terrorists in under two seconds, saving the hostages lives.

The new Rainbow Six looks to drastically improve upon the gameplay of the previous games, allowing the player to make crucial tactical decisions to save both lives of hostages and those of his squad as well.
