What is the vBulletin Upgrade Fund Drive?
Seriously!'s upgrade fund drive is an opportunity for the community to help contribute
to the continuing growth of Seriously! as well as the file system and the thriving
forum community.
Why is this necessary?
Over the years, Seriously!'s traffic has continuously increased and our audience
broadened creating a load on our current software. With the upcoming releases
of Serious Sam HD and
Serious Sam Forever,
the site's traffic will increase to a point where our current software can no
longer adequately handle the load. We need to upgrade our software and this costs
money, and due to numerous problems with our recent switch to a new host we are
low on funds.
How will Seriously! be improved by this, and how much will it cost?
Currently, we are using a custom-built news/article management system, a custom-built
file download system, a generic gallery script, and the vBulletin 3.6 Forum software.
The custom software has not aged well and needs to be replaced with something
better. We have decided that the best option is the new vBulletin 4.0 Publishing
Suite, that when combined with several add-ons and modules would satisfy all of
our needs and give the site a new integrated feel that it has never had before.
In addition to all the features we need the new suite will allow us to offer all
new features like personal blogs, social networking, personal and private galleries,
user-submitted news and files, and much more. This new package would more than
prepare us to deliver the best online information and more for our community.
What this boils down to is a fund raising goal of $285 from the community. While
the total cost may be higher depending on the add-ons and modules we choose to
get--most are free--but $285 is the basic cost of the vBulletin 4.0 Publishing
Suite license.
What if I don't contribute?
This fund drive is completely voluntary. If you don't contribute at all,
you will still be able to get all of the same news, screenshots, files, and other
services that everyone else can get, and there won't be pop-up ads or full-page
ads clogging things up. However, we do ask everyone who is able to contribute
to do so. Even a small amount such as $5 or $10 is helpful, and if 57 people contribute
$5, that adds up to $285! Even though we cannot offer an incentive at this time
you can have a warm feeling in your heart knowing you have contributed to a worthy
cause.
